MEETING FOR THE 100 YEARS OF THE NEWSPAPER PATRIS

Celebration in honour of the 100 years of the Newspaper PATRIS

The 100-year course of Patris and its offering to prompt and objective information was commemorated in an emotive and particularly beautiful celebration by the people that originate from Ilia and reside in Athens. The celebration was held in the events' room of the Old Parliament on 27-11-2002. Main organisers were the Pan-Hellenic Federation of Cultural Associations of Ilia (PASESI) and EOSP.

Remarkable impression made the speech - historical reference of the main speaker, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Giannis Zafiropoulos.

In the frames of the same celebration an honour plaque was awarded to Mr. Leonidas Varouxis and Mr. Kostas Varouxis.

To the celebration participated hundreds of people originating from Ilia and residing in Athens, many presidents of Associations, representatives of local newspapers of Ilia that are edited in Athens and Ilia, as well as:

Main speaker at the meeting was former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Giannis Zafiropoulos. His speech, a historical reference to the newspaper, made remarkable impression. His references to the founder of the newspaper Leon.D.Varoulis as well as to the manifold course of the newspaper in the 20th century until today, created emotion and nostalgia.
