CONFERENCE FOR THE SOUTHEAST EUROPE AND THE ROLE OF GREECE IN THE DEVELOPING AND ECONOMIC RECONSTITUTION OF THE BALKANS

Greece is connected through rich historical bonds with the region of Southeast Europe.
The bilateral commercial and economic relations hit impression and growth during the last years and in correlation with the stabilisation of the region, they show better perspectives for the future.
For this reason, the European Organisation for Strategic Planning organised, from 13th to 15th December 2002, a conference in Athens with subject:
"SOUTHEASTERN EUROPE at the DAWN of the 21st CENTURY and the ROLE of GREECE in the DEVELOPING and ECONOMIC RECONSTITUTION"
And the following specific objectives:
1. Our country to continue to play a stabilising role in the Balkans.
2. Our country to be stated as the basic mediator between the countries of Southeast Europe and the E.U.
3. The creative and gradual integration of Southeast Europe in European Union.
4. The development of initiatives on our country's behalf in the democratisation, in the development and growth of the living standard of the countries in Southeast Europe.
5. Promotion of issues that concern the countries of Southeast Europe (political stabilisation, regional collaboration, market rules, economic and social growth) through the forthcoming Greek presidency in the first semester of 2003.
6. Direct involvement of the bodies of the society of citizens and of the Non-Governmental Organisations in the development of the countries of Southeast Europe.
7. Intent of creating multiple benefits for the countries of Southeast Europe and our country.
8. Additionally, the contribution to the treatment of the problems of development for the receiving countries, elaboration of the bilateral relations and facilitation of the Greek entrepreneurial activities in the Balkans and Southeast Europe region.
