"The agricultural entrepreneurship in the 21st Century"

The European Organisation for Strategic Planning in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development & Food organised on 19th and 20th January 2007 at the Zappeion Center a conference with subject:
"The agricultural entrepreneurship in the 21st Century"

The conference had as an objective to approach totally and partly, the new policies that are outlined after the revision of the Common Agricultural Policy. In June 2003, the Ministers of Agriculture of EU approved a reform (from foundation) of the Common Agricultural Policy. This reform will change completely the way in which EU supports its agricultural field.
The new CAP will move towards the consumers and the taxpayers, whereas at the same time will give to the farmers of EU the freedom to produce the products demanded by the market.
In the future, the large majority of the subsidies will be given regardless the production volume. At the same time, emphasis will be given to regulations that are related to the maintenance of standards regarding the environment, food safety and the living conditions of the animals.
The annulment of the connection between subsidies and production must be accompanied with the development of agricultural entrepreneurship, in order for the farmers to turn to the market and become more competitive.
