Meeting: "4th Programming Period: Viable Development in the Region of Crete"

9th July 2007
Heraklion Crete

The European Organisation for Strategic Planning, in collaboration with the Prefecture of Heraklion, organised on 9th July 2007, in Heraklion, a meeting with subject:
"4th Programming Period: Viable Development in the Region of Crete"

Crete encountered new opportunities and possibilities for development in sight of the 4th Programming Period. The National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) is the document - guide for the programming of the European Funds, on a national level, in the period 2007 - 2013 and was prepared in the framework of the new strategic approach for the political cohesion of the European Union.
The aim is to ensure that the contribution of EU consorts with the community strategic directions for the cohesion and defines the connection between community priorities and the national reformation program.
The statement of positions and opinions of bodies and experts on issues that concern the relation of the Self-government with the NSRF and the local and regional development, contribute to the creative examination and can give a new perspective to the Region of Crete in face of the 4th Programming Period, which has already begun.
The Prefecture of Heraklion deeply believes in the need of a closer collaboration of the prefectures, the local self-government and the Region, because it considers that Crete is an integrated historical, geographical and cultural unity.
